Perhaps you have had an experience where you may know something rationally but experience a disconnect with how you feel. Our bodies can get stuck in survival mode and in patterns of coping that no longer serve us after experiencing chronic stress or trauma. Through somatic EMDR, I use a mind-body approach that can help you get unstuck so that you can create a bridge between experiences from the past and values-aligned actions in the present.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), is a specialized type of therapy that can help with metabolizing unprocessed emotions and incomplete stress responses that can take place with trauma. The primary mechanism is something called bilateral stimulation which may sound intimidating, but may in practice, looks like incorporating movements that stimulate the right and left side of your brain while reprocessing difficult memories.
